AfriYAN Rwanda empowers 25 Young Champions to drive the meaningful youth participation in accelerati

In a significant stride towards advancing the implementation of the International Conference on Population Development (ICPD) commitments, AfriYAN Rwanda, in collaboration with UNFPA, organized a training for 25 Young Champions. The training aimed to equip these young leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to champion Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) issues in Rwanda.

The training was a response to the urgent need for increased action, commitments, and investments to address the challenges faced by young people in accessing comprehensive ASRH services. The initiative sought to bridge the gap between existing promises and the practical realization of the ICPD Program of Action.

The training offered young people with an opportunity for:

  1. In-depth Understanding: Young Champions were provided with a comprehensive understanding of the ICPD Program of Action and Rwanda's national commitments, emphasizing the significance of youth involvement in shaping the agenda.

  2. Skill Development: Participants were equipped with essential skills to effectively engage themselves and their peers in addressing ASRH issues, fostering a proactive approach to sexual and reproductive health.

  3. Empowerment: The young champions gained innovative approaches for increasing youth demand for ASRH services and advocating for policies and programs that align with ASRH goals in Rwanda.

  4. Mentorship: The training encouraged the young champions to become mentors for other emerging leaders in their communities, promoting a ripple effect of positive change in ASRH awareness and advocacy.

As the young champions embark on their roles as advocates and leaders, their efforts are expected to contribute to a faster pace of change, aligning with the broader goal of achieving the ICPD Program of Action and fulfilling the potential of young people in Rwanda. The commitment of AfriYAN Rwanda, UNFPA, and other stakeholders to invest in the capacity-building of these young leaders reflects a collective determination to accelerate progress towards the ICPD's vision as we advance towards ICPD30.
